Celades: "It's a huge honour to be here, and there is the maximum level of demand"

New Valencia CF coach Albert Celades spoke about his appointment in his presentation on Wednesday

Albert Celades was officially presented as Valencia CF's new first team coach on Wednesday, shortly after signing a contract through to June 30th, 2021. Speaking to the media, he answered questions about his football philosophy, the objectives to the club, the importance of Mestalla and more.

"I'm aware that it is a demanding challenge, without a doubt. Valencia CF are a big side -a giant. We know the club that we are coming to and we are going to try to work in the best way possible," he said in the evening press conference.

"Everything happened very quickly. We are aware of the work that Marcelino and his coaching staff have done here over the past two years, and they have done very good things. We want to continue encouraging the good things that the team have done, and add to them.

"More than it being a case of expecting the call, one always hopes to receive a call for a job like this. We're at a very, very big club, with a huge opportunity and a very big challenge for the people who are here. We are aware of the opportunity that we have. We have a magnificent stadium, an incredible city and a very good team, who are used to fighting for the top positions," Celades continued.

On the club's objectives, the Spaniard said that "the aim for a team like Valencia CF is always to win as many games as possible, and we are facing the task ahead with this mentality. We've just arrived here, but the fact that we are here means that there is the maximum level of demand and that we have to go out there to win every game. A club like this cannot aim for anything different to that."

The former Spain Under-21s coach was asked about young players available to him at Valencia CF, such as Ferran Torres and Kang In. He responded by saying that "We are going to pick players who will help the club to win, whatever their age. Whether a player is 35 years old or 17, if they are going to help us to win, then we will play them"

Celades arrives with Óscar Álvarez and Javi Miñano for his coaching staff, and also an idea as to how he wants his team to play.

"The team do a lot of good things, which have led to them doing well this season and last season. We aren't here to break up everything that is in place. We are going to try to continue nurturing these good things. From there, we will incorporate other things, but the team already have a lot going for them."

"For me, and for us, it's a huge honour to be here, working at a club like this, with a fanbase like Valencia CF have."
